Core Assumptions

This strategic plan makes several core assumptions about the nature of the
services provided at AIDS Vancouver Island. These assumptions include:
- Incorporating Hepatitis C and other co-infections in service planning, design
and delivery - Recognizing the impact of active addiction and mental illness in clients’
lives - Maintaining a balance between prevention and treatment, care and support
services - Acknowledging the diverse service needs of the general population, vulnerable
groups and people living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C and other co-infections - Optimizing universal prevention efforts in the general population
- Targeting enhanced prevention and treatment, care and support efforts to
vulnerable population groups - Using the best available knowledge and evidence to rationalize decisions
and resource allocation
