Can I get HIV by performing oral sex on a man?

It is very unlikely that you could get HIV this way. Giving a man oral sex (giving head, blow-job, sucking off, fellatio) is considered a low risk activity.

Transmission of HIV through performing oral sex on a man has occurred very rarely. There are a few reasons for this ...

First of all, a healthy mouth is considered to be a "hostile environment" for HIV, because an enzyme in saliva has been shown to inhibit HIV. That means that you can make giving head even less risky by ensuring you have good oral hygiene (no cuts or sores in the mouth, and don't brush or floss in the hour or so before-hand!)

There is no increased risk of HIV transmission by taking ejaculate (cum) in the mouth, or in swallowing cum. The small risk of transmission is from taking cum into an unhealthy mouth.

However, some STDs other than HIV can be easily transmitted through oral sex where no condom is used!
